Since SOS first aired in 1999, Nick Knowles has been the star of the popular home improvement programme which sees a team of builders renovate a person’s home that has been nominated by the person’s friend or family member.
Lowri Turner, Kate McIntyre and Brigid Calderhead have also co-presented DIY SOS, alongside Nick Knowles.
Surprisingly, Nick Knowles doesn’t come from a building or construction background, but started his career off in TV production.
But is he still a part of the DIY SOS team? Here’s what you need to know.
Is Nick Knowles still on DIY SOS?
Yes! Nick Knowles is still the host of the home DIY show, despite being absent from hosting duties in 2021 when he missed out on presenting the DIY SOS Children In Need special.
In May 2021 Nick Knowles violated the BBC’s strict advertising rules, and was forced to take a brief hiatus from the home improvement show, after appearing in a cereal commercial.
Why did Nick Knowles temporarily leave the show?
Nick Knowles left the show temporarily in 2021 because he featured in a Shreddies cereal ad campaign, which breached the BBC’s strict advertising rules.
Capitalising on his DIY SOS persona, the ad features Nick Knowles playing a builder who pours Shreddies into his hard hat.
Shreddies didn’t want to pull the campaign, so the commercial which was hosted by comedian Rhod Gilbert instead.
However following discussions with the BBC, it was agreed Nick would leave the programme until the ad ran its course
Nick Knowles stepped back from the programme in November 2021, and .
He is now back to hosting the current season of DIY SOS.
DIY SOS returns to BBC One on Tuesday May 10 at 8pm.
