Movie fans have been treated to the first full trailer for ’s upcoming movie Napoleon, which will track the conqueror’s rise to power.
The American actor, 48, will star as emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in the Ridley Scott film, which is .
While Joaquin has featured in two A24 films in recent years, C’mon C’mon and Beau is Afraid, Napoleon will be since 2019’s – which landed him the best actor Oscar in 2020.
For Napoleon, he will reunite with director Ridley for the first time since Gladiator, which took home the Academy Awards for best picture and best actor.
The footage displays the film’s impressive battle set-pieces and shows scenes of France’s capital Paris during the French Revolution between 1788 and 1799.
The brand new trailer also gives fans their first glimpse at Vanessa Kirby as Empress Josephine, the first wife of Napoleon between 1804 and 1810.
Several battle scenes are depicted, including Napoleon’s decisive victories in Austria and Egypt, which gained him a reputation as a fierce military commander.
It is set to a cover of Radiohead’s The National Anthem, which was recorded for their number one album Kid A, released in October, 2000.
Characters describe Napoleon’s actions as ‘holding the world hostage’ while Joaquin’s fierce leader says of himself that he ‘simply never’ makes mistakes.
Other key cast members include Tahar Rahim as politician Paul Barras, and Ben Miles as Caulaincourt, an adviser to Napoleon.
The film is slated for release on November 24, 2023.
Last month, several members of the crew on Ridley Scott’s planned sequel to Gladiator were on set.
According to sources quoted by , production on the Paul Mescal-starring film was affected when six staff had to be given immediate medical attention.
‘It was terrifying — a huge ball of fire flew up and caught several crew members in its path,’ the source said of the incident.
