is holding nothing back on her latest single, with several of the lyrics brutally addressing her recent marriage split.
The , 40, split from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock in 2020, with the eventually being finalised midway through 2022.
The couple married in 2013 after dating each other for just over a year and had two children – eight-year-old daughter River, and seven-year-old son Remy.
Kelly and Brandon split, , and the events have now inspired the Since U Been Gone hitmaker’s first original album since 2017.
The brand new singles, which were released together on Friday (April 14), are entitled Mine and Me, and are the lead singles for upcoming album Chemistry.
According to Kelly, the album’s concept revolves around ‘the arc of an entire relationship’, and features ‘the good, the bad, and the ugly’.
Mine, which will be track #2 on the album, features lyrics such as: ‘Someone’s gonna show you how a heart can be used, like you did mine.’
The song also makes explicit lyrical references to the 2004 Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey break-up film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Me, which is co-written by ABCDEFU breakout star Gayle, contains lyrics that Kelly’s fans are reading as messages to Brandon following the divorce.
‘Your insecurity was the death of you and me, Too many times you questioned what were my intentions,’ she sings in a verse.
The album will be Kelly’s first full collection of original material in six years, with a 2021 Christmas album the only new release in that time.
Kelly scored four consecutive top 10 albums in the UK between 2004 and 2011, scoring nine top 10 singles and a number 1 with My Life Would Suck Without You.
Since then, Kelly has been a judge on The Voice US, the host of The Kelly Clarkson Show, and a presenter on The American Song Contest.
Last month, Kelly covered Gayle’s worldwide hit on her talk show, and made to reference her divorce.
Over ABCDEFU’s chorus, Kelly sang: ‘Forget you and your dad and the fact that you got half and my broken heart, turn that s*** into art.’
