has finally revealed why an ‘exciting’ reality competition presented by him and was axed after just six episodes.
Freeze the Fear, , 55, and the ex-This Morning presenter, 42, lasted just one season back in 2022.
Also starring extreme athlete and motivational speaker Wim Hof, the reality show saw eight celebrities seriously put to the test in dangerous sub-zero conditions.
The show featured the likes of sports presenter Gabby Logan, former defender Patrice Evra, and rapper Professor Green, but wasn’t a hit with viewers.
And now Lee has revealed exactly why a show with similar potential as Celebrity SAS was ultimately frozen on the spot from the word go.
‘Celebs in cold water did not make as exciting television as [the BBC’s producers] thought,’ the Not Going Out star told on Friday (February 23).
Looking back, however, Lee said he was disappointed to have seen the show cancelled and insisted he liked filming it, especially playing the role of ‘the cynical comic’.
Episodes of the series are still available to watch on iPlayer and so far there’s no indication that they will be removed despite the series’ cancellation.
The series also featured appearances from Strictly Come Dancing’s Dianne Buswell, BBC weather reporter Owain Wyn Evans, and EastEnders actress Tamzin Outhwaite.
It was reported in January 2023 that the series wouldn’t be returning in the next 12 months, with no progress having been made on a second season at the time.
It was the first series Holly had presented on the BBC for almost a decade, with her having worked for ITV almost exclusively since 2004.
And it appears Holly had massive hopes for the series as well, with sources telling just how excited she was to don her arctic hiking gear and team up with Lee.
‘Since 2004 Holly has almost exclusively worked for ITV as one of the channel’s most prized presenters,’ the report said.
‘So it was a big deal in the industry that she was hopping over to the BBC and showed she had real confidence in Freeze the Fear being a big success. But as it stands there’s been no work done on a second series.’
With no plans for a subsequent season of Freeze the Fear, Holly, of course, returned to TV with Dancing On Ice earlier this year following her exit from This Morning in 2023.
Away from Dancing On Ice but sticking with ITV, that it’s in store for Ant and Dec when she guests on the new season launch of Saturday Night Takeaway.
In an Instagram post featuring Rylan Clark and Cheryl, Holly had her eyes on two cakes that looked to have Ant and Dec’s names written all over them.
