Dune: Part Two might have been delayed but fans now have both that an amazing ornithopter to look forward to next year.

Although they’d probably sell a lot, Lego would never make an official set based on a movie with too much in the way of violence or adult themes. Technically, is only rated 12 but it’s still not the sort of film you’d normally expect to see Lego make a set for.

However, their Lego Ideas line is inspired by models designed by fans. People then and vote on those they like the most. If a model gets more than 10,000 votes, then Lego considers turning it into a real retail set, and that’s how the Atreides Royal Ornithopter came to be.

Not only does it look and work exactly like the aircraft from the film, since there’s unlikely to be any other Dune sets Lego has included eight exclusive new minifigures, including Baron Harkonnen in his flowing robes – who looks amazing floating on invisible Lego pieces.

The other seven minifigures, who don’t float and are considerably less evil, are Paul Atreides ( in the movie), Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), Gurney Halleck (Josh Brolin), Chani (), Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac), Liet-Kynes (Sharon Duncan-Brewster), and Duncan Idaho ().

The ornithopter itself is made up of 1,369 Lego pieces and features moving blades that can retract and flap up to 180°, just like in the movie – which has taken a considerable amount of Lego engineering to achieve.

Overall, the ornithopter measures 57 cm long and 23 cm high, with foldable landing gear and an opening cockpit.

It costs £149.99, which isn’t bad for a licensed set with that many minifgures. It’ll be available on February 1 from Lego stores or you can pre-order it now from the .

‘Turning a beloved Dune icon into a Lego masterpiece has always been our dream. The unique and creative design of this product perfectly aligns with both the Dune and Lego spirit, and we’re excited for fans of all ages to enjoy the experience,’ said Lego’s Amber Sheppo.

‘Like fans across the world, we were fully enraptured by the epic Dune when it released – so our return to Arakkis in Dune: Part Two was the perfect opportunity to bring this iconic craft to life in Lego brick form,’ said design master Michael Psiak.

Dune: Part Two was supposed to be out this year but because of the actors strike it’s been put back to March 2024 – so just after the Lego set is released.
