You might not think many retirees eagerly await tuning into on a nightly basis, but 90-year-old Cathie Tosh smashes that stereotype.
The great-grandmother from Dundee is a massive fan of the reality dating series, so much so that she makes sure to.
Loving nothing more than settling into the sofa at 9pm each night, Cathie admits she loves witnessing theunfolding in the villa.
The nonagenarian became obsessed with the programme when her granddaughter told her about it and this year, she has someone in mind who she’d like to take out the win.
‘I just love watching. I always wonder with the couples and if they’ll split up and go with someone else,’ she explained.
‘Sometimes I tape it so I can watch it if I think I’m going to miss it – I like to know what’s happening. I look forward to seeing it and love watching the couples to see how they’re getting on.
‘I quite like Molly who came back – I’d like to see her win. We don’t know what’s going to happen to her, I think she’ll go back to the lad she’s with – we’ll wait and see,’ she added when speaking to the.
The former shop assistant said it was her granddaughter Stephanie Abbott, 33, a customer service assistant, who first got her hooked on the reality show.
However now that Stephanie has a baby, there’s not as much time to tune in together.
But Cathie, who lost husband Tom Tosh in 2005, said she still loves to settle down in the evening and catch up on what’s been happening between the Islanders.
Not unlike many other Love Island fans, Cathie points to seeing the boys and girls split up and sent to Casa Amor as her favourite part of the series.
However, she does like seeing love blossom, and does find it sad witnessing couples break-up after it appeared they had potential.
‘I watch everything and take it all in – I’ve watched it since I knew about it. I watch all the soaps earlier on [in the day] but I like watching Love Island at nighttime,’ she explained.
‘Sometimes if it’s on too early I’ll tape it and watch it later on, I never miss an episode.
‘I like when they split to go to different places and meet other people and you don’t know what’s going to happen – you think “maybe she should stay with him”. But I hate when they’re really close and then something happens, and they go back to their other partners.’
Not willing to miss out on any detail of the show, Cathie also makes sure to tune into Aftersun and the unseen bits.
‘I love it, I really do,’ she said.
Her daughter Karen Abbott, 66, said her mum loved to update the rest of the family on the reality series and the unfolding drama, adding that Cathie was ‘young at heart’ and more into the show than anyone else in her family now.
While Cathie is throwing her support behind Molly, there’s been some controversy about her return to the villa after being dumped early in the series.
After producers brought the musical theatre performer back, some fans said it , while Kady McDermott this week after being booted herself.
When Kady was dumped from the villa, Molly could be seen smirking, something a fan pointed out on social media in a post that Kady then shared and added that Molly had been wearing her bikini during that moment.
Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV1.
