has shed more light on his break-up with fellow winner , acknowledging that splitting up had been a ‘long time coming’.
Earlier this week, the former announced in a post on his Instagram Story that they had , stating: ‘I am grateful for the memories and opportunities we shared together and wish her nothing but the best.’
Following his statement, there has continued to be plenty of speculation about their romance and where the cracks were formed, and so Davide, 27, decided to clear it all up with a lengthy explanation on his Instagram page, also outlining why his ex-girlfriend Ekin-Su, 28, has been yet to speak out.
Davide began by expressing his frustration over people theorising that he could be returning to Love Island just because he went on a trip to Ibiza, which was actually a work trip through his role working with fashion brand BoohooMAN.
He continued: ‘Did anyone even think how difficult would be for me to post the story knowing that right now all I needed was actually some peace and privacy?
‘Posting publicly about the breakup was extremely difficult yet necessary, despite the urge to keep it private, and contrary to what chinese whispers are saying, I didn’t blindside her as she was fully aware about my intention to post and at first she even agreed to post at the same time, she did change her mind last minute though.’
Davide said that while he ‘respected’ Ekin-Su’s decision not to post at the same time as him, he decided to go ahead with it ‘since the relationship has been on the rocks for months and parting ways has been a long time coming’.
The reality star stressed that he shared his statement about their split ‘rather than keep on dragging a situation that became unhealthy for both of us’.
‘This has been one of the hardest thing I ever did in my life and there’s no perfect way to navigate a breakup,’ he stated.
Davide hit out at ‘fake narratives’ and a ‘stream of toxic criticism circulating around me’, stressing that he was a ‘genuine, caring and loving boyfriend for her’.
Informing his followers that this had a ‘massive impact’ on his mental health and their relationship, the Love Island winner addressed that there was a ‘lot of pressure’ for him and Ekin-Su to appear as the ‘perfect couple’.
The Italian added that people have also judged him on his English, as he pointed out that when he arrived in England four years ago, he didn’t know how to speak the language, and has since gone on to celebrate big achievements, including graduating in MSc Banking and Finance with first class honours.
‘Fortunately most of the people have good sense of judgement and see how things really are. Sadly some people are creating even more stories for some clicks on their names or pages when the reality is that I’ve been always by her side supporting her and wanting her to succeed,’ he wrote.
‘I felt I had to say something to give voice to the majority of people that know I’m not what some twisted and nasty individuals have been trying to portrait me for months.’
Davide thanked his fans for their ‘supportive and kind messages’, concluding his message by saying: ‘I will keep on being the genuine, loving and fun person I’ve always been and people have loved.’
