Speaking to pal Lala on the red carpet, Kim explained just how much hard work went into making sure she was able to wear Marliyn’s dress – which has been kept under lock and key at a Ripley’s Believe It Or Not museum, and was unable to be altered.
‘This is Marilyn Monroe’s dress it’s 60 years old. She wore this when she sang happy birthday to John F Kennedy in 1962,’ the Skims businesswoman explained.
‘I tried it on and it didn’t fit me.
‘I had to lose 16lbs to be able to fit this. It was such a challenge it was like a role.
‘I don’t think they believed that I was going to do it but I did it.’
Kim has become a regular at the Met Gala but this marks the first time that she has been joined by Pete for the celebrations.
It was also a night of firsts for the famous family as her sisters Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian finally made their debuts at the fundraiser.
