The pop icon, 30, shot to fame as a child through series Hannah Montana, which also starred dad Billy Ray as her on-screen father.
Since her child-star beginning, Miley has on her own merit, with recent track Flowers becoming the bestselling single of the year so far.
However it despite her musical success, as she and her siblings suffered heartbreak when their parents, Billy and now-ex Tish, .
And just months after the divorce was filed, Billy , 34, just four years older than his daughter, and who he met on the set of Hannah Montana.
Their relationship was said to have caused difficulties between the father and daughter at the time, with a source telling The Sun ‘there has been some tension with Miley, which is sad to see.’
Now Miley has been filmed growing teary as she spoke about her dad in new ABC show Endless Summer Vacation: Continued (Backyard Sessions), which was released to promote the release of her new single Used To Be Young.
In the clip, she compares her and her father’s childhoods, saying her dad ‘grew up the opposite of me.’
‘I grew up on a sound stage, in a house with a family that was super close and all lived under the same roof. And I grew up financially stable and emotionally stable, I think in my relationships also.
‘And that’s something that my dad didn’t have. I’ve seen how that affects a lot of people that go from having nothing to everything. It’s a really dangerous place.’
She admitted she believes ‘that’s where me and my dad’s relationship to fame and success is wildly different.’
‘Him feeling loved by a big audience impacted him emotionally more than it ever could me. When he feel special or important it’s like healing a childhood wound. And I’ve always been made to feel like a star.’
‘It makes me emotional,’ she admitted, before having to stop talking as her eyes filled with tears.
The clip then showed Miley having to take a deep breath and wipe her eyes, adding: ‘Oh, it got me.’
It was reported last year that Miley and her father were ‘no longer on speaking terms’ following her parents’ split, with the singer even unfollowing Billy on Instagram.
A source said at the time that ‘everyone is hopeful that [Miley and Billy] will be able to get over it soon enough. Thankfully his other kids do not have an issue with him.’
Miley’s mother, Trish, remarried over the weekend to Prison Break star Dominic Purcell – however two of Tish’s children did not attend.
Noah, 23, instead shared updates from her day out with Braisen on Instagram as they spent time together away from the ceremony which took place in Malibu, California.
Miley, as well as Tish’s other adult children Brandi and Trace, were all said to have been in attendance at their mum’s nuptials, with Miley reportedly a bridesmaid.
Tish, like Billy, became engaged quickly after the divorce from her ex, sparking romance rumours with Dominic just three months later, and announcing an engagement not long after that.
