The reason for ’s recently cancelled shows has been revealed as the star is now under ‘medical supervision’ for physical exhaustion.
Morrissey, 64, has been instructed to rest for at least two weeks, which caused him to last minute.
– full name Steven Patrick Morrissey – initially cancelled his shows at the Honda Centre in Anaheim on Friday, January 26, and at the Kia Forum the following night citing ‘unforeseen circumstances’.
But Morrissey’s tour manager, Donnie Knutson, has now released a statement.
Shared to his social media, it read: ‘Morrissey is receiving medical supervision for physical exhaustion.
‘He has been ordered to rest for two weeks, and he will remain in Zurich.’
The crooner’s have now also reportedly been cancelled, initially due to kick off on February 3.
Morrissey was due to perform You Are the Quarry, in its entirety in celebration of 20 years since its release.
Marking his best US charting outcome, the record features four singles that also made the UK top 10: Irish Blood, English Heart, First of the Gang to Die, Let Me Kiss You, and I Have Forgiven Jesus.
As he receives treatment, tour opener She Wants Revenge said they were ‘genuinely saddened’ to learn of the gigs’ cancellation.
In a Facebook post, the rock band wrote: ‘We wish there was something we could do but, unfortunately, we are powerless over the situation.
‘Like many of you, we were looking forward to the shows, not only because of the special night of music it could have been but also to share space in those incredible venues.’
Cryptically, they added: ‘Also, like many of you, though we are frustrated and deeply disappointed, we are not terribly surprised – and that’s truly the unfortunate part.
‘We all knew this was a possibility, we just hoped it would play out different this time.’
They concluded: ‘Since we became aware of the situation this morning, we’ve worked tirelessly to try and create an alternative concert for those of you who were coming to see us this weekend, sadly we weren’t able to do so on the scale we would need it to be and that you deserve.
‘We wanted nothing more than to play to our beloved hometown friends and family, and eagerly await the chance to do so soon.’
Taking to the comments, fans expressed their shared frustration and sadness.
Denise McKay declared Morrissey the ‘cancel king’, while Ryan Walker wrote: ‘Morrissey and cancelled shows, name a more iconic duo.’
Danny Alvarado said: ‘That’s Morrissey for you. He always cancels shows.’
Lara Vincent Callesen commented: ‘We had tickets/ flights / hotel to see She Wants Revenge not Morrissey…now we get none of the above.’
Indeed, has acquired somewhat of a reputation for cancelling shows.
Over the past 12 years, the singer has cancelled 120 concerts.
His latest cancellations come after, earlier this month, Morrissey claimed that he was being deleted from being the ‘central essence’ of The Smiths.
Hitting out at his former bandmates and associates in a blog post titled CANCEL CULTURE BEGINS AT HOME on his official website, he quoted their debut single Hand In Glove to conclude: ‘Hand in glove, I stake my claim! I’ll fight to the last breath!’
