How comes they’ve suddenly got new games to show? (pic: Nintendo)

Those 2D rumours are starting to look very believable, as confirm that there is a Direct showcase planned this week.

A new Nintendo Direct Is indeed set to take place this week, after rumours suggested one was imminent, with Nintendo confirming that it will stream on Wednesday, June 21 at 3pm BST.

It will apparently last for ‘roughly’ 40 minutes and ‘mostly’ focus on Switch games being released later this year, including Pikmin 4 (and probably – if there’s anyone that cares about that).

The only other first party release we know about for sure is but whatever else Nintendo is going to talk about, there doesn’t seem to be any indication that they’ll discuss the Switch 2 – or whatever they’ll call their next console.

Apart from the Direct itself, the other rumour this week has been that Nintendo will unveil a , that is not part of the New Super Mario Bros. sub-series. Plus, a remake of a SNES game – possibly the currently Japanese-only Fire Emblem: Genealogy Of The Holy War.

The other possibility is , which has never been seen in public and which many suspect may be being held back for the Switch 2. Nintendo has never confirmed that though, so it’s more than possible it could still end up being a regular Switch release – even if it seems unlikely it’ll launch this year.

There’s obviously no guarantee any of these games will be featured, as one of the main reasons why Nintendo rumours are so often inaccurate is that they’re constantly changing their mind at the last minute.

Even so, it’s odd that the reason Nintendo said they weren’t attending E3, while it was still a thing that was going to happen, is that they didn’t have enough games to show.

That was also assumed to be the reason they didn’t have a Nintendo Direct earlier in the month, and yet here we are a week later and apparently they’ve got 40 minutes worth of games to talk about.
