We all laughed when we heard a sloth was Hollywood’s newest serial killer but it seems the joke’s on us as critics are surprisingly raving about the new horror movie.Â

It follows college senior Emily who is desperate to be elected as sorority president but will need to take down mean girl Brianna. Emily adopts a seemingly adorable sloth in hopes of boosting her bid, but her new pet unleashes a bloody massacre on the Sigma Lambda Theta sisters.
Movie lovers were in hysterics over the premise when the trailer released this month and teased sloth Alpha’s killer antics, but now they might be eating their words.
Those who have been able to see previews of the horror in the US have been raving about how good Slotherhouse actually is.
In their review, The Guardian’s Stuart Heritage toyed with the idea that it might be a ‘secret masterpiece’ while Variety’s William Earl praised the ‘slick’ camerawork and consideration of the ‘overall craft’ compared to other low-budget efforts in the genre.Â
ComingSoon.net said Slotherhouse ‘effectively utilises absurdity’ and the positive reviews don’t stop there.
Other viewers who have been lucky enough to see it first have taken to social media to share their thoughts.
One tweeted on X, formerly known as Twitter: ‘Okay, but Slotherhouse was actually phenomenal and I recommend everybody watching if you are in for campy horror.’
Another agreed: ‘I wish the promotional game for this movie was better because this movie was a gem. Campy af.’

In their Google review, one cinema-goer said: ‘This movie is genuinely good, and not good in the way the room is, good in the way Marvel used to be. This is pure, absurdist horror and comedy at the same time and you need to give it a try.’

Slotherhouse, which stars Lisa Ambalavanar, Sydney Craven and Tiff Stevenson, is out in US cinemas now. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
