viewers were left stunned after the dramatic finale of the Birmingham-set gangster drama, as protagonist Tommy Shelby ()’s fate was revealed.

The last instalment of the popular and gripping BBC show was filled with twists, turns and a few major deaths for good measure as we bid farewell to the Shelby clan.

Fans watched on as revenge-seeking Michael was finally released from prison, and desperate to avenge his mother Polly Shelby’s death, by killing Tommy.

However, his attempt to blow up the former veteran and gangster leader was foiled at the last minute, with Tommy shooting him instead.

It then seemed as though Tommy would take his own life after a diagnosis with a terminal tuberculosis, but was saved by supernatural intervention.

Just as he was about to die, he was visited by the ghost of his dead daughter Ruby, who informed him that he ‘must live’.
