Phil Spencer admits the ‘shock and sadness is immense’ in heartbreaking post about parents Ki**ed in crash

It was revealed on August 19 that  when a car veered off the road and into a stream.

The farmer couple – who had  – were heading out for lunch at a nearby pub, accompanied by their carer, , fell into a shallow river on their Littlebourne property and flipped upside down.

Shortly after the horrific events, Phil revealed , including how his brother  by cutting them out of their car with a penknife.

Phil has now opened up about the heartbreak in a new post, writing: ‘When we buried Mum and Dad on Friday, and celebrated their lives with a Memorial service on Saturday, we had many Thank yous to say to our community in Kent, but I wanted to say a very large thank you beyond that, for the dozens of bunches of flowers, hundreds of letters and cards, and thousands of kind and thoughtful messages I’ve received over the last few weeks.’

He went on: ‘The shock and sadness is immense, but I’d like you to know it has been diluted by such huge support from so many friends and followers; my family and I have appreciated every single kind word, message and prayer sent our way – thank you SO SO much.

‘They have helped to bring some smiles and laughter in amongst our sadness.  

‘We continue to give thanks for, and at times are even managing to be able to celebrate, the fact that Mum and Dad were able to live, to love and then to leave their beloved farm together.  

‘None of us get to choose how we depart this world – but as a family we know in our heart of hearts that to go side by side next to your partner of 60 years is a beautiful thing.

‘It would 100% have been what they would have wished for, and so we accept it in its entirety, and we thank God for his presence and for his remarkable plan.’

Phil’s post was showered in support, including by co-star Kirstie Allsopp, who wrote: ‘I was so struck at the service on Saturday by the enormous affection & respect for your Mum & Dad from those on and around the farm.

‘They were so proud of you all, and you can be so proud to have had them as parents.

‘They lived kind & worthwhile lives, and that knowledge is in itself a blessing and an example. xxx’

This comes after Phil thanked fans as he returned to work, in a clip with Kirstie.

‘So we’re back at work filming on Location, Location, Location and I didn’t quite know what my next post on Instagram would be because the last post was about Phil’s mum and dad and you all put such lovely, lovely messages and Phil was so grateful,’ Kirstie said to camera while filming in the grounds of a stately home in Cheam.

Panning around to show that she had ‘found him’, Phil, who also , stepped into view with a smile and ‘hello’.

‘I’m very grateful thank you, and I haven’t put anything on Instagram either. I do appreciate people’s lovely, lovely comments,’ Phil then said.

Kirstie had previously revealed how the Spencer family were , telling the ’s Newscast podcast: ‘(Phil’s) got a lovely, lovely family and they’re very, very close and they’re all together.

‘In fact, his sister was married yesterday, which they went ahead with and today they’re all going to the pub for lunch. The same pub that his parents were on the way to when they died.’

She added: ‘He’s very stoical and pragmatic, and he feels very strongly that it was the right thing that his parents went together.’
