Not only has Rockstar Games allegedly abandoned plans for any more remasters but also the next gen versions of Red Dead Redemption 2.
For months now there have been rumours that Rockstar is planning to , as well as other Grand Theft Auto games including GTA 4.
Recently though, new rumours suggested that Rockstar had cancelled these plans in order to , and that apparently includes next gen versions of Red Redemption 2.
Although Rockstar never officially announced any remasters, owners Take-Two did say that their various subsidiaries have , which virtually guaranteed that at least some of them would be from Rockstar.
According to insider Tez, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 versions of Red Dead Redemption 2 have been planned for a long time now and as well as improved graphics would’ve introduced an ‘Enhanced Rockstar Editor’.
Supposedly though, that has been ‘cancelled/halted’, as the developer ramps up working on GTA 6, which is believed to be its only major project at the moment – apart from ongoing support for GTA 5.
Tez was the first to report that other remaster projects had been cancelled at Rockstar, something which was quickly corroborated by other sources.
Although the remaster cancellations are relatively understandable the cancellation of the next gen versions of Red Dead Redemption 2 is disappointing.
Cross-play with the current gen versions would’ve been expected, with the remasters giving the Red Dead Online mode a new lease of life.
However, the fact that Rockstar has confirmed that major development on the game’s online component , is an indication that the rumours about the next gen versions are probably true.
