Rex Orange County pleads not guilty after being charged with 6 counts of sexual assault

Rex Orange County singer Alexander O’Connor has been charged with six counts of sexual assault.

The musician appeared Southwark Crown Court in on Monday (October 10) following allegations that he assaulted a woman in the capital on six separate occasions.

O’Connor pleaded not guilty and denied the allegations, and was released on unconditional bail.

A provisional trial date has been set for January 3, 2023.

The 24-year-old was taken to court after a woman over the age of 16 claimed he assaulted her in London’s West End on June 1.

He then allegedly assaulted her four more times on June 2, once in a taxi and three further times at his home in Notting Hill.

Representatives for the artist say he is ‘shocked’ by the allegations.

In a statement issued to , a spokesperson said: ‘Alex is shocked by the allegations, which he denies, and looks forward to clearing his name in court.’

They added that he is ‘unable to make any further comment because of the ongoing proceedings.’

O’Connor entered the music industry at the age of 16 when he began attending the Brit School, where he studied drumming.

In 2015, On 4 September 2015, O’Connor self-released his debut album, Bcos U Will Never B Free, on SoundCloud and acquired a management team after fellow musician and producer Two Inch Punch got in touch.

The singer got his big break in 2017 when he featured on Tyler, the Creator’s Grammy-nominated album Flower Boy.

He’s also released three of his own studio albums, as well as a live album.

Rex Orange County’s most popular tunes include Pluto Projector, Best Friend, and Television/So far, so good.

In October 2020, O’Connor confirmed that he was in the process of recording a fourth studio album titled Who Cares?, which was released this year.

Back in July 2022, he announced that he was cancelling his upcoming tour dates in Australia, New Zealand and Europe owing to ‘unforeseen personal circumstances.’

O’Connor said he needed to ‘spend some time at home,’ admitting that scrapping his tour was ‘the last thing I want to do.’

‘I love touring and I am so sorry to be letting anyone down. I look forward to getting back to it as soon as I can.’
