announced earlier this year that she had quit to focus on other projects, but viewers aren’t so sure on her first presenting gig.
Romeo and Duet is a new dating show where singletons try to find dates based on their singing voices alone, and Oti takes on the role of Cupid as the host.
The show began last week on ITV and received a mixed response, and the second episode was met with more negativity and confusion this week.
The new series of Strictly hasn’t even started yet and fans are already missing the pro dancer on the glitzy BBC series, begging Oti to return and ditch her new role.
Her Romeo and Duet gig comes after she made a great first impression on the Dancing On Ice judging panel, alongside Jayne Torvill, Christopher Dean and Diversity’s Ashley Banjo.
The concept of the show is contestants have to serenade a potential date and win them over with their vocals and song choice, all while the pair can’t see each other.
Oti has been serving lewks each episode so far and dazzling viewers with her charm, but audiences aren’t quite warming to the show itself.
Some of the reviews of the show have been rather brutal, with some urging for it to be ‘cancelled’ by ITV after just two instalments.
One even claimed that the show is ‘ruining’ Oti’s career after she left Strictly where she was ‘beloved.’
‘I love Oti but this show is not it,’ tweeted one.
‘Oti Mabuse oh dear! What a mistake quitting #strictly #romeoandduet probably the worst show on tv,’ said another.
Another tweeted: ‘Oti deserves a better show than this. It’s terrible. But I’ll keep it on before BGT’
However, the show isn’t totally without fans, as some are already loving tuning in each week to see what matches will be made.
‘This easy watching Saturday night programme is really making me smile. Isn’t Oti just delightful,’ one tweeted.
‘Enjoying #romeoandduet more than I expected to, ngl,’ another wrote.
Strictly fans’ hearts broke when long-serving professional after seven years.
She is the only pro to have lifted the glitter ball trophy two consecutive times, firstly with Kelvin Fletcher then with Bill Bailey.
Oti said it was a ‘difficult decision’ not to return to the dancing programme, but vowed she will always be a part of the ‘Strictly family.’
