And for their first undercover prank of the series, the Geordie duo went big as they got their revenge on Britain’s Got Talent judge (and boss) Simon.

Sadly, not all reactions to the prank were positive, as some viewers accused the former X Factor judge of ‘setting a bad example’.

Their reasons were because Simon, 64, was filmed cycling without a helmet.

The prank began with Ant and Dec returning to the States to prank Simon on his bike ride and during filming for America’s Got Talent (AGT).

Part one saw him interrupted on his morning cycle by a fake police officer who accused him of breaking a series of made-up misdemeanours.

One thing viewers noticed immediately was Simon’s lack of safety gear.

‘Currently watching #SaturdayNightTakeaway and I’m surprised to see Simon Cowell, a person who injured himself badly on an e-bike, not wearing a helmet. This is him genuinely out for a normal bike ride, pre-shenanigans. Look after yourselves everyone! Wear a helmet lol’, wrote X user DarkNight3141.

‘Considering the guy has had accidents on his bike; breaking his back, his arm…. and other injuries, im surprised at the lack of protective gear or even a helmet…..??’, said snapplebabble.

‘The arrogance of Simon Cowell though, after his bike crash, still out complete without helmet’, blasted putthetellyon.

‘Simon cycling without a helmet as well. Not setting a good example’, echoed slinehan1.

User trevorfeelgood posted: ‘Where’s your helmet Simon !!!’

Simon actually acknowledge the glaring problem once the prank was exposed as he chatted to Ant and Dec in the studio.

He revealed that his young son, Eric, actually asked him prior to his outing: ‘Aren’t you going to wear a helmet?’

Simon then laughed about how he lied to Eric, saying he was going to wear a helmet but then chose not to, issuing an apology to him down the camera.

As noted by viewers, Simon is actually lucky to be alive in August 2020.

That summer, Simon was in Malibu, California, resulting in him

Thankfully, he’s now, quite literally, back on his bike – but Ant and Dec’s prank didn’t end there, oh no…

The second stage of the undercover saw the music producer being pranked on AGT in front of a live audience when a fake magician act got him to get into a metal box on stage which they locked with chains, with the masked performer pretending to swallow the keys.

However, they pretended to Simon that the key had got stuck in the performer’s throat, which left him unimpressed, as you can imagine.

Stage crew members then pretended to attempt to cut him free with a chainsaw and just before they were going to use explosives, Ant and Dec took to the stage in disguise as the masked performers before revealing they were behind the prank.

‘I am going to kill you,’ Simon declared.

They got him good!

This was the second time the music mogul was a victim of the duo’s pranks, having first been targeted in 2003 when they pretended to be a funny audition on US singing competition American Idol, where Simon was a judge.

Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway airs Saturdays on ITV1 and ITVX.
