Sports reporter fired after being caught on film hurling ‘f***ing c**t insult at fellow journalist

A sports reporter in the has been sacked by ESPN after being captured on camera calling a fellow journalist a ‘f***ing c**t’.

The incident is said to have occurred while professional baseball player was being interviewed at a game taking place at .

Sportswriter Marly Rivera allegedly hurled the expletive insult in the direction of reporter Ivón Gaete after they had a disagreement over speaking to Judge.

It’s been claimed that Rivera had set up time to interview the captain of the Yankees, while Gaete also turned up to speak to him.

While becoming embroiled in the quarrel over the mishap, Rivera was reportedly caught on film calling Gaete a ‘f***ing c**t.

In a statement sent to, ESPN confirmed with regards to Rivera: ‘She no longer works here.’

Rivera reportedly tried to apologise to Gaete, but her attempt was spurned.

In a statement sent to the publication, the fired reporter said: ‘I fully accept responsibility for what I said, which I should not have.

‘There were extenuating circumstances but that in no way is an excuse for my actions.

‘I am a professional with a sterling reputation across baseball and I do believe that I am being singled out by a group of individuals with whom I have a long history of professional disagreements.’

Gaete, a freelance reporter, is the wife of MLB vice president of communications John Blundell, who is said to have declined to comment on the situation.

Rivera has worked for ESPN for over a decade, covering Major League Baseball with particular focus on the New York Yankees.

It appears as though her Twitter and Instagram accounts have become inactive amid the news of her firing.

Rivera said that there’s been discord between her and Blundell in the past, which she believes contributed towards her being fired for this particular incident.

In her role, she wrote for ESPN’s digital platforms and was the MLB playoff game analyst for ESPN Radio.
