season 4 finished several weeks ago, but the discourse and the theories are still going strong.

It was the longest season of the series so far, and it introduced new characters who stole the hearts of viewers – Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) in particular.

But one new face, Henry Creel, aka One, aka Vecna () was revealed as the force behind everything the Hellfire Club has faced up to now.

And now the creators of the show, the Duffer Brothers, have revealed that we still haven’t learned everything about how Vecna and the Upside Down came to be.

Speaking to , Ross Duffer said that there was still a lot more to explore: ‘The final reveal is going to be in season five, and we’re excited about that’.

Matt added to his brother’s comments: ‘[We’ve been] revealing more about the Upside Down, the origins of the Upside Down.’

It was revealed in the season four finale that Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) overpowered Vecna several years ago, and sent him through a gate to the Upside Down.

Once there, he became more powerful and began to use the Upside Down against the town of Hawkins, Indiana.

And the Duffer Brothers have revealed just how they arrived at this point.

‘All these things were goalposts. It’s not like there was someone called Vecna, but it was going to be about Number One.’

‘We knew we wanted this entity controlling everything, but it wasn’t really till we’d gotten into the [season 4] that we figured out all the details.’

The siblings also revealed that they only began to map out the later seasons and expand the show’s lore once Netflix had renewed the series.

‘It was just one season that we had figured out [in 2016], we didn’t do the five season map out.’

‘We had no idea we were gonna go beyond season 1, so it was just like, “Let’s make an amazing season, we may never have this opportunity again.”‘

Earlier this month a photo confirmed work on season five had officially begun, with the Stranger Things Writers twitter sharing a picture of the drawing board.

‘Day 1,’ the tweet read, alongside a whiteboard with a symbol for ‘Stranger Things 5’ drawn in a marker on top of it.

‘DAY 1 DAY 1 DAY 1 DAY 1 !!!’ the official Twitter account for the show celebrated.
