star has announced his split from girlfriend Eiri Munro.
The Olympic swimmer was in a three-year relationship with Eiri and the pair shared two-year-old son George.
Their relationship was thrust under the spotlight late last year when Adam, 27, competed on BBC One’s Strictly where he was partnered up with professional dancer .
Eiri previously revealed how she due to looking after their young son while Adam was away training for the show.
Now almost a year later, the pair have gone their separate ways with the Olympic swimmer announcing the news in an Instagram post.
Alongside a family photo of him and Eiri posing with little George, Adam explained: ‘Eiri and I have decided to go our separate ways.
‘We have enjoyed a wonderful three years together, 2 of those with our gorgeous son George. Our priority has always been to provide the happiest and healthiest home environment for him, and right now that means ending our romantic relationship.’
Praising his former partner, Adam stated: ‘I could not ask for a greater mother for George and I am so grateful to Eiri for her amazing support over the last three years.’
The athlete did not share an exact reason for the break-up, but added: ‘Eiri and George, I’m sorry for letting you down. My only interest is for the well-being of our family at this difficult time so I ask that our privacy is respected and I won’t be saying anything further.’
Adam and Eiri’s relationship was subjected to scrutiny last year when Strictly with dance partner Katya at the end of their steamy Argentine Tango.
However, as soon as he was eliminated, Adam hit back at his and urged them to ‘do better.’
Shortly after the elimination, Eiri explained the challenges of dating a Strictly contestant in the spotlight.
Speaking to the , she said in November: ‘The moment Adam comes on screen, George makes a beeline for the TV, shaking his bottom to the music and shouting ”daddy.”
‘The delight in his face makes all these long days, feeling like a single mum, worthwhile.’
The following month, Adam and Eiri attended the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards and put on a cosy display while looking happy with each other.
They were last seen publicly at Wimbledon in July, and sat together in the Royal box.
