fans had to do a double take after Spanish football manager made a cheeky cameo in the penultimate episode.
The latest instalment of the comedy – which is currently airing its third season – Ted’s (Jason Sudekis) AFC Richmond faces off against City.
After Richmond’s victory, Ted walks over to shake a man’s hand, but viewers couldn’t believe their eyes when the person on the receiving end was none other than Josep “Pep”.
‘I gotta be honest with ya, you’re a tough guy to beat, man,’ Ted tells him.
‘Nah, don’t worry about the wins or losses. Just help these guys be the best version of themselves on and off the pitch. This, at the end, is the most important thing,’ Pep replies.
The brief interaction was hailed ‘the best thing ever’ by devoted fans, with one person tweeting: ‘Pep on Ted Lasso is the mid-week boost I never knew I needed.’
‘Just watched the #TedLasso episode and lmaooooo when did Pep film this? he aced his 3 lines though so give him his Emmy!’ another added.
The much-loved comedy follows an American football coach who moves to the UK after being hired to manage a struggling English soccer team.
With the third (and rumoured last) series currently underway, actor Nick Mohammed – who plays Nathan Shelley -revealed that he that’s as successful as Ted Lasso.
When asked how he felt about taking centre stage in a reboot, he told Metro.co.uk: ‘Big shoes to fill aren’t they?
‘I worry about the nature of spin-offs, especially with a show that’s been so successful, but yeah let’s see where the story heads, we’ve got a lot more to see of Nate’
He added: ‘I could just go over to Kansas and do the equivalent show, that would be fun.’
The first season first dropped on the streaming platform in August 2020, during the height of the pandemic, and critics praised the series for being the perfect ‘serotonin boost’ during the difficult period.
Ted Lasso is available to stream on Apple TV Plus with new episodes premiering every Wednesday.
