fans have been left pulling out their hair after Nick Mohammed teased that might be on its way.
Earlier this year the third season of the sports comedy-drama hit screens, concluded with Ted () making the decision to leave and return to the to coach his son Henry’s soccer team.
While there was much speculation this was the final season of the show, creator and star Jason never explicitly confirmed that was the case, leading many fans to hold on to hope it might return.
However, , he did say it was ‘the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell.
‘The fact that folks will want more and are curious beyond more than what they don’t even know yet—that being Season Three—it’s flattering.’
But since then, stars including Nick, who played have been teasing.
A few months back he shared a photo in character alongside Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) and Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) that was captioned ‘smells like potential’, with the actor adding an emoji with a zip over its mouth.
Now, he’s again teased fans, this time with another photo from set.
On Friday he posted a photo of him smirking at the camera and wrote: ‘One year to the day since Ted Lasso wrapped. And one year to the day that I accidentally posted this spoiler of Nate in AFC Richmond kit! Promise it won’t happen again on season 4- now wait’
Unsurprisingly his final comment sparked plenty of interest.
‘Season 4? ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!’ one fan commented.
‘I literally told my husband the other night how I’m still so sad about Ted Lasso being done. If this happens I’ll die with excitement,’ someone else shared.
Others attempted some bribery to get the inside scroop: ‘C’mon Nate, tell us it’s happening!!! I promise you a window table anywhere!!!!’
However others realised it was all likely a bit of a tease, and begged him not to mess with their emotions.
‘Sir, don’t toy with us like that! Also, please say it’s true!’ someone asked.
‘I need season 4 more than I need oxygen,’ was another desperate plea for more episodes.’
Many others questioned whether they could trust Nick and asked him not to ‘get hopes up’ unless it was actually happening.
Even Hannah Waddingham, who played AFC Richmond’s owner Rebecca Welton weighed in, but simply shared a series of emojis with faces laughing with tears and others with love hearts.
Earlier this year Nick said he would be keen for a spin-off if it was ever to happen.
‘It’ll be quite emotional actually, because who knows whether it’s the very, very end or not or whether there’ll be more after a break,’ he told ahead of the finale.
‘I don’t know whether it comes back as a film. I’ve heard rumours of spinoffs… Who knows?’
However, he did say it might not be ‘quite right’ to solely focus on Nate because he had ‘been on such a journey over these three seasons already’.
Around the same time Jason also hinted a spin-off was not off the table.
‘I think that we’ve set the table for all sorts of folks to get to watch the further telling of these stories,’ he said when asked about the potential for a new series.
‘Again, I can’t help but take the question as flattery for what all of us that were working on the show has tried to do.
‘It’s really kind of folks to even consider that because you never know what’s gonna happen when you make things. The fact that people want more, even if it’s a different avenue is lovely.’
