Prime’s highly popular and irreverent superhero series is back for season 3 and .
With events picking up a year after , there’s a lot to unpack for members of both The Seven – corrupt superheroes working for powerful corporation Vought International and abusing their powers – and The Boys, a group of vigilantes set up to bring down the company and its corrupt, fake heroes.
With another eight episodes in store (although only the ), the cast has seen a swelling among its ranks.
Alongside established characters including Homelander (Anthony Starr), Billy Butcher (), Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid), The Deep (Chace Crawford) and Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott), we’ve got new blood from the likes of actors Jensen Ackles and Laurie Holden.
Who are the new additions to The Boys for season three though, and which characters do they play?
Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy
, the first-ever superhero, and a parody-style figure of Captain America.
In the original graphic novels by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, Soldier Boy has an enigmatic backstory.
After being injected with Compound V formula in 1944, he fought and Ki**ed German soldiers at the height of conflict across Europe.
In season three, The Boys’ pursuit of a mysterious anti-supe weapon leads them to chasing Soldier Boy.
As well as over 300 episodes of Supernatural, Ackles has also starred on US soap opera Day’s Of Our Lives, Dawson’s Creek, Smallville and Big Sky.
Laurie Holden as Crimson Countess
is a spoof of ’s Scarlet Witch, a.k.a. Wanda Maximoff, made particularly popular by ’s , starring Elizabeth Olsen in the role alongside Paul Bettany as Vision, and Wanda’s return in the recent .
Crimson Countess’ other half is similar to Wanda’s too – Mind-Droid.
She is a member of the Payback superhero team. Â
Holden is best known for her stint as Andrea on The Walking Dead, but she’s also been in TV series including The X-Files and The Americans.
Miles Gaston Villanueva as Supersonic
Supersonic, as played by Miles Gaston Villanueva, is Starlight’s (Erin Moriarty) ex-boyfriend.
He is also a member of Payback, although not much is known about him.
In promotional material for the show, a peek was given at him through Tucker Carson parody Seven on 7 by Cameron Coleman, with it being suggested he’s making a major comeback.
He is based on the original comics’ character of Drummer Boy.
Villanueva’s first breakthrough role came on American soap The Young and the Restless, but he’s also appeared in Law & Order True Crime and Nancy Drew.
Nick Weschler as Blue Hawk
Blue Hawk, another member of Payback, is portrayed by Nick Weschler.
Not much is known about him, as a freshly created character to the universe, but there’s feeling he could be based on Wolverine parody Ground Hawk (who wears a blue hawk helmet) in the comics.
Some of Weschler’s biggest roles have been on Team Knight Rider, Roswell and Revenge with Emily VanCamp.
Sean Patrick Flanery as Gunpowder
Sean Patrick Flanery stars as Gunpowder and is – surprise, surprise – yet another Payback team member.
A character in the comics, he is a firearms enthusiast and is able to manipulate projectiles and conjure weapons from thin air.
He was also Soldier Boy’s sidekick.
As well as the distinction of having played the titular character in The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, Flaney has been in The Dead Zone, Dexter and The Bay, for which he won a Daytime Emmy Award.
Katia Winter as Little Nina
A non-superhero new addition, Little Nina (Katia Winter) is in fact a notorious Russian gangster.
In the comics, her nickname comes form her short stature and fondness for vibrators.
She has also worked with Vought and made her own supes using a derived version of Compound V, which keeps failing. In the show, however, her story is said to have been quite drastically altered.
Also on Dexter, Winter played Katrina Crane on Sleepy Hollow and appeared in The Catch and Agent Hamilton.
The Boys seasons 1 and 2 are available to watch on Amazon’s Prime Video. Season 3 streams on Prime on Friday, June 3.
