After previously going on the search for young and lookalikes, is now said to be doing the same for in the series.

With the fifth season of the period drama due to come out later this year, the subsequent sixth season will mark the end of the show, depicting II’s reign into the 21st century.

Considering the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge met while at university at St Andrews in the early 2000s, it might not come as a surprise that a younger version of Catherine could show up in the story.

It’s said that if she does appear, it might only be in the capacity of a small supporting role, just like how Jessica Aquilina briefly appeared as a young Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York in season four.

A TV insider said that having an actor portray the Duchess of Cambridge in The Crown would be an ‘easy win’ for the show, ‘as the creators know it will get more people watching’.

‘Particularly as it will show her relationship with William just as their romance starts to blossom when they were both students,’ they added to .

However, the insider added that as she is ‘not necessarily a crucial part of the storyline’, her presence would be ‘a bonus’.

‘They’ll only cast someone if they can find the right candidate,’ they said.

In November last year, it emerged that the teenage son of actor Dominic West – who is set to depict Prince Charles from season five opposite Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana – had been .

It was claimed that Senan West, who was 13 years old at the time of the report, would star as the royal in the final episodes of season five, as he’s shown maturing through his adolescence.

While the producers of The Crown have not commented on whether Princess Diana’s death will be portrayed in the drama, Senan could be portraying Prince William at the time of his tragic loss, which occurred in 1997 when he was 15 years old.

In summer last year, it was claimed that the show’s producers were in the fifth instalment because there was a lack of young stars with ginger hair.

A source said that finding someone with hair that naturally matched the Duke of Sussex’s had ‘proved incredibly difficult’.

However, they added that ‘they’re determined to cast the right actor and are considering taking any steps necessary to make him look the part’.

Netflix declined to comment when contacted by Metro.co.uk.

The Crown is available to watch on Netflix.
