The Games: Which celebrities are taking part?

ITV’s upcoming action-packed sports show, The Games, follows several celebrities taking on a number of different sports – battling it out to reach the top of the medals table. 

Freddie Flintoff and will be fronting the series alongside Alex Scott who will also join as a pitch-side reporter as commentator.

Viewers will see 12 celebrities being taken out of ‘their comfort zones’ as they are coached and trained in different areas of sport at the athletics arena, the swimming pool, and the gymnasium.

The competitors will also showcase their athletic ability in events from the 100-meter sprint to diving.

But which celebrities are taking part?

Who are The Games’ contestants?

Christine McGuinness

Model and autism awareness ambassador Christine will be testing her physical and mental strength in the upcoming series.

The 34-year-old recently revealed to fans that competing on the show was tougher than she imagined.

‘I’m not really sure what has happened to my life, to be honest. I don’t think I signed up for this. What a day,’ she said on Instagram.

The mum-of-three is married to presenter Paddy McGuinness.

Olivia Attwood

Olivia is best known for her iconic stint on Love Island and made it all the way to the final in 2017.

The reality star has been a regular fixture on screens ever since, going on to feature in The Only Way Is Essex and .

Max George

Max reportedly replaced Mark Wright (Picture: ITV)

Singer Max George is known for being a member of the British boyband The Wanted.

The pop star is certainly no stranger to reality TV as he participated in series 18 of Strictly Come Dancing.

The Gold Forever hitmaker was reportedly invited to join the show after 

Kevin Clifton

Former Strictly pro Kevin is also part of the line-up.

Although the 39-year-old departed the hit BBC One series in 2020, his big concern in front of the live crowd.

‘I’m so used to thinking “let’s entertain everyone,”‘ he told Metro.co.uk and other press.

‘It’ll egg me on and I’m worried that my technique will go out the window because I’ll be like “yeah let’s go!”‘

Wes Nelson

Wes Nelson starred in series four of Love Island with Dani Dyer and Jack Fowler.

The musician showed off his musical talents on a special edition of the X Factor which resulted in him signing a solo deal with Universal.

The star finished in second place in series 11 of Dancing On Ice.

Ryan Thomas

He appeared as Jason Grimshaw on Coronation Street from 2000 until 2016. 

Ryan – who is engaged to former Towie star Lucy Mecklenburgh – revealed the gender of their second baby as they prepare to welcome their new bundle of joy in a matter of days.

Colson Smith

Coronation Street star  is best known for playing Craig Tinker on the ITV soap.

During the coronavirus pandemic, the actor shared his impressive exercise regime. Colson made the most of his lockdown exercise,  while taking part in a virtual 5K and losing 10 stone while Coronation Street filming was paused.

Josh Herdman

Former Harry Potter star Josh Herdman starred as Gregory Goyle in the Harry Potter film franchise – alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson.

Since then, the actor went on to pursue a career as an MMA fighter.

Lucrezia Millarini

Newsreader Lucrezia is best known for presenting ITV News London and ITV Lunchtime News.

Similarly to Wes, the star also featured on Dancing On Ice in 2020.

Rebecca Sarker

The 47-year-old actress has also appeared in Coronation Street and made various appearances in television series including Doctors, Holby City, The Golden Hour, and EastEnders.

Rebecca first appeared in the Dales in 2018 as Manpreet, when she was covering for Dr Cavanagh at the Abbott Lane Surgery – and took a shine to Rishi when he came in for a check-up.

Chelcee Grimes

Chelcee has written for huge artists including Dua and Kylie Minogue, and her songwriting credits include Dua’s Love Again, Dreams and Bad Together, Dua’s collaboration with BLACKPINK, Kiss and Make Up, Kylie’s Million Miles, Louisa Johnson’s So Good, The Saturdays’ Walking Through The Desert and Olly Murs’ Deeper.

Football fans may also recognise the Scouser from her time with Merseyrail Ladies FC, Liverpool Ladies, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, Tranmere Rovers, and Fulham, and her work with BBC Sport and Sky Sports.

Phoenix Brown

Phoenix is best known as the daughter of former Spice Girls singer Mel B.

The influencer has over 50,000 followers on Instagram and she is also one of the youngest stars taking part in the series.

When does The Games start on ITV?

The first live show of The Games starts on Monday May 9 at 9pm on ITV – and will air airing over consecutive nights on the broadcaster. 

Each episode will feature the celebrities’ preparation as they’re taught the sports from scratch by some of the UK’s top coaches. Following their gruelling training programme leading up to the competition, as they aim to reach their peak physical condition. 

As the leader board takes shape with each night, the series will culminate in an exhilarating final showdown in which one male champion and one female champion will be crowned.

The Games airs on Monday at 9pm on ITV.
