A new Netflix series, by the makers of The Tinder Swindler, is set to get fans hooked as they follow the uncovering of IsAnyoneUp.com founder Hunter Moore.
, follows how Moore, and his notorious website were brought to justice by his victims.
At the lead of the fight was , a mother who was willing to take Moore down – and succeeded, as she worked with Moore’s victims to take down their pictures and videos from the website, and shut it down entirely.
In the process, Moore gained a reputation so horrific that he even makes the Simon Leviev seem like a nice guy.
Here is what you need to know about Hunter Moore…
Who is Hunter Moore?
Hunter Moore, 36, grew up in Woodland, California, where he attended and was expelled from Woodland Christian School.
In 2010 he set up IsAnyoneUp.com, where he uploaded explicit pictures of women without their consent, with links to their Facebook and Twitter profiles.
While IsAnyoneUp.com eventually was shut down, and Moore sold its domain name to anti-bullying group Bullyville.com, he is still regarded as the ‘most hated man on the internet’, also labelled as ‘the king of revenge porn.’
Moore earned his moniker The Most Hated Man on the Internet back in 2012, when a profiled him.
As shown in the documentary, which uses footage of Moore speaking about his victims, his site, and how he wants to make money from ‘f***ing people over’, Moore knew he had the power to violate people’s privacy, and to some extent, he almost thought he’d gotten away with it.
In his own words, he was a ‘professional life ruiner’.
He faced lawsuits and an FBI investigation and pleaded guilty in February 2015, to aggravated identity theft and aiding and abetting in the unauthorized access of a computer.
He was sentenced to two and a half years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
Where is Hunter Moore now?
Just like Simon Leviev, Moore is now free. Having served two years prison time following his 2015 trial, after Charlotte Laws’ work with the FBI, Moore was freed under supervised release and ordered to pay a fine.
He had been federally charged for aggravated identity theft and hacking, having hacked into his victims’ social media accounts to access their photos and then publish them on his site.
After his release in May 2017, Moore self-published Is Anyone Up?! The Story of Revenge Porn, a year later.
Moore was actually going to be involved in the Netflix docuseries about him, but pulled out.
Producers revealed: ‘When we were developing it, he initially agreed to take part, but then decided not to.’
Producer Vikki Miller added: ‘When Hunter pulled out, I was initially disappointed but then I completely changed my mind and am so glad we ended up telling it through Charlotte Laws’ narrative.’
Moore has recently expressed that he has , and is even proud of his creation.
Responding to Youtuber Daniel Wise, Moore said: ‘First of all, I mean this probably sounds horrible, but I’m proud of what I created, I’m proud of the community I created.
‘Now hell do I wish I had gone about it in a different way? 100%, and you know I’m obviously more than sorry and definitely would love to apologise to people that were affected negatively by the website.
‘But beside that, I did do my time, I feel like I did pay my dues, and it wasn’t all negative, and I had a great time and I would definitely do it over and over again, but I would do it in a different way and I would definitely take back any of the trauma that anybody suffered from the website or anything negative that happened through the site because back then I didnt understand it.’
He was later following the release of the documentary.
