Here’s an idea: instead of replacing the world’s workforce, getting to sing an song is what AI should be used for.
In the viral clip, the replaces Monkeys singer – a move that some are joking should be made permanent after 2023.
It’s not the first time Homer’s voice has been dubbed over a rock band after AI experimentation, with the Red Hot Chili Peppers receiving similar treatment.
The video, posted by TikTok account MemeMusic, features clips from a 2008 Simpsons episode called That 90s Show and features Homer’s college days.
Played over the footage is the reinterpretation of Arctic Monkeys’ 2013 single R U Mine – unbelievably, Homer sounds right at home ‘performing’ the AM song.
‘Never thought I’d hear Homer with a Sheffield accent but here we are,’ one person commented, perhaps exposing that the AI needs a few updates yet.
A second person also noticed the Springfieldianite’s Yorkshire twang: ‘Homer has a South Yorkshire accent and I don’t know if I should feel pride or fear.’
Another user remarked that the video showed what would have happened if Homer had done his degree at Sheffield Hallam University.
Some people even suggested replacing frontman Alex permanently with Homer (or at least with Homer’s voice actor since the 1980s, Dan Castellaneta).
‘Sounds better than modern day Alex Turner’, said the highest-voted comment, while another person said it was ‘lowkey better than the original’.
Ironically, That 90s Show, taken from The Simpsons’ 19th season, features flashbacks to Homer’s university days – he forms a band named Sadgasm.
A parody of Nirvana, Sadgasm are a grunge band who perform a series of small shows – eventually they hit stardom and are parodied by Weird Al Yankovic.
After their Glastonbury 2023 headline set on the Pyramid Stage was criticised, many .
Watching at home, one view said: ‘Worst performance I’ve ever seen from them. Voice management maybe after the last week, but p**s poor.’
In response, a number of the band’s fans reminded those complaining that the I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor singer had been suffering from laryngitis.
