Twitch streamer sensation Ranboo comes out on Twitter

streamer Ranboo has seemingly confirmed that he is gay to his 2.8 million followers on Twitter.

Amidst the buyout of Twitter, , a streamer that currently has 4.7 million followers on the platform, appeared to come out with a tweet that just said ‘/srs’.

‘Srs’ is short for serious, after his fanbase became abuzz with speculation regarding his sexuality. This was further confirmed in replies to fellow content creators congratulating him.

frequently streams , as well as streaming in the ‘Just Chatting’ category. His YouTube channel currently holds 3.89 million subscribers.

Who is Ranboo?

Ranboo is an 18-year-old streamer from the US. He came into the public limelight after immensely popular Minecraft streamer, Dream, invited him to his personal server to play.

From here, Ranboo’s popularity grew and much like , used anonymity that helped contribute to his growth. Ranboo kept his anonymity to help with his dysmorphia, as he struggles with the way that his face looks.

Ranboo also uses a ‘vtuber’ persona, where a 2D or 3D model is mapped to the individual’s face, allowing for a greater sense of anonymity and to allow people to play a character instead.

Ranboo’s audience, when , was found to have a majority within the LGBT+ community, with a total of 83% who voted in the poll expressing their sexuality.

Ranboo did stress that even though he would like to remain unlabelled for the most part, he is okay with being labelled as gay.

Twitch and LGBT+

Twitch has recently begun cracking down on hate speech in regards to the LGBT+ community, with the platform tweeting out that they were noticing an uptick in spam and hate speech directed at individuals on the website.

However, Twitch has a rampant problem with homophobic slurs being used loosely, as seen with recent incidents to do with one of the on the platform, . It has gotten to the point where other streamers like have begun fighting back against the normalisation of the act.
