The Scream 6 cast have shared their favorite film from the slasher franchise, and we demand justice for number three.
The beloved , introducing us all to Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), Dewey Riley (David Arquette) and the ever-creepy Ghostface.
Since that initial outing in Woodsboro, we’ve gone on to watch from behind the sofa as the masked killer struck a further five times, – which was set in New York.
This has sparked a huge conversation between film fans, which of the movies are the best.
Metro.co.uk spoke to the cast – including Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding – ahead of the sequel’s home entertainment release, to get their thoughts on their favorite Scream film.
Without skipping a beat, Jenna, who starred as Tara Carpenter, told us: ‘The first one. I don’t know that there’s another answer.’
Sam Carpenter actress Melissa followed suit before switching things up: ‘The first one is pretty iconic. . I feel like it’s such an unpopular opinion but I actually love the third one!
‘It’s so funny and if you know the backstory of what happened when they were shooting that movie, and how they had to change the script because of what was going on in the world.
‘I think it’s brilliant what they did. It’s very unique and cool.’
Melissa also gave a shout-out to Parker Posey’s ‘iconic’ stint as Jennifer Jolie – aka the stab version of Gale Weathers – in the flick, describing her as ‘one of my favorite characters ever’.
, as Josh Segarra agreed: ‘I’m a sucker for the original. Skeet [Ulrich] and Matthew Lillard, when they confess that they were the killers, I’ll remember that scene forever, for sure.
‘And that phone ringing, Drew Barrymore picking it up? [Shivers].’
Mindy Meeks star Jasmin celebrated Scream 2, while her on-screen twin brother, Mason, went in a different direction, remembering Hayden Panettiere’s scenes as Kirby Reed.
‘I’ll say 4 because that’s Kirby’s introduction and it also feels current in a way that just misses modern day,’ he said. ‘It has a few things like iPhones but not good ones. It’s very funny.
‘I feel like the easy answer is the first one.’
When asked why no one – other than Melissa – praised Scream 3, he suggested: ‘I think it was such a departure that you have to have a niche taste…
‘And there’s something about my first Scream movie-going experience that I’ll never forget, and that was Scream 4 in 2011.’
Despite Scream 3 getting an honorable mention, the cast appeared to steer clear of naming the fifth instalment, which was released in 2022.
Melissa, Jenna, Jasmin and Mason made their debuts in the slasher sequel, which also served as the first film that Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett helmed, following the death of director Wes Craven.
Despite the outright terrifying scenes, it was also an emotional outing as it marked the final film that Courteney, Neve and David were on our screens together.
While Courteney reprised her role as Gale for Scream 6, Neve – and we’re still not quite over David’s exit…
Scream 6Â is available to Download & Keep now, and on DVD, Blu-ray & 4K Ultra HD from July 10.
