WWE’s board of directors had formed a special committee at the time to investigate allegationsamounting to millions of dollars to cover up affairs and misconduct.
On March 23, it was revealed in an SEC filing that McMahon had reimbursed the company around $17.4 million for costs related to the investigation.
The document notes that the payment is to pay WWE back for costs ‘incurred and paid by the company’ either in connection with or arising from ‘the investigation conducted by a special committee of the company’s board of directors, related revisions to the company’s financial statements and other related matters’.
The board, whose special committee completed an investigation into the claims in November last year, had said he paid out almost $20 million in unrecorded expenses.
The allegations in question claimed that McMahon raped a female referee, something he has always denied.
He also denied paying other female employees hush money to cover up secret affairs.
