superstar Cody Rhodes showed the extent of his horrific injury as he stepped inside Hell In A Cell.
The American Nightmare has suffered a but fought through the pain to face Seth Freakin’ Rollins – who was wearing his late dad Dusty Rhodes’ iconic polka dots – on Sunday night.
Cody was covered up as he made his entrance, but the Allstate Arena in Chicago was filled with gasps from the crowd as he revealed his purple chest and shoulder.
A hush fell over the venue when he took his taken off, with many clearly surprised that Rhodes is cleared to compete even for this match.
In a statement less than an hour before the show got underway, WWE tweeted: ‘BREAKING: @CodyRhodes suffered a partially torn right pectoral tendonon #WWERaw.’
Speaking on the Hell In A Cell 2022 Kickoff show, host Kayla Braxton added: ‘While weight training in preparation, the tendon tore completely off the bone.’
Despite the injury, Rhodes was still out for the main event, with fans sure to be concerned about his short term future in the ring after the bout, which saw Rollins totally dominate.
Cody responded to reports earlier in the day as he shared a photo from the Allstate Arena in Chicago and wrote: ‘You ready Chicago? #HIAC @WWE’
Elsewhere on the show, Bianca Belair kicked things off by retaining her Raw Women’s Championship in an instant classic against Becky Lynch and Asuka, while Theory held onto the United States Title despite the best efforts of Mustafa Ali.
Madcap Moss got a measure of revenge on Happy Corbin in a brutal No Holds Barred match, and The Judgement Day (Edge, Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley) defeated AJ Styles, Finn Balor and Liv Morgan.
Bobby Lashley overcame MVP and Omos with some help from Cedric Alexander, and Kevin Owens pinned Ezekiel.
