The Miz sent a message to Rey Mysterio on as he unmasked the legend in the ultimate sign of disrespect.

The A-Lister – who will team up with Logan Paul in just two weeks to face Rey and his son Dominik at WrestleMania 38 – and left fans in the arena stunned.

Miz had been on commentary for the Mysterios’ tag match against Robert Roode and the NXT Champion Dolph Ziggler, hyping up their upcoming bout in Dallas, Texas.

After Rey and Dominik picked up the win, he went on the attack and hit the Skull Crushing Finale on floor outside the ring.

He tore off his face as the legendary luchador covered up while his son called for a towel to protect his identity.

Although the former world champion has been uncovered on-screen in the past, it’s still seen as a big deal, particularly in lucha libre culture where masks are such a huge part of the legacy.

In an added twist, Miz was heard on the phone backstage as he revealed he’d taken the mask for Logan, who is apparently a big fan of Mysterio – and he’s dared him to wear it on Raw next week.

Fans were shocked by the whole series of events, with one tweeting: ‘The GASP I made when Rey Mysterio was unmasked, that was NOT ok, genuinely upsetting.’

Another added: ‘The Miz unmasked Rey Mysterio. Bro #wweraw be wilding tonight.’

Meanwhile, others pointed out it’s far from the first time the star has suffered a similar fate as one cheeky fan quipped: ‘Rey has been unmasked more times than a scooby doo villain (sic)’

It sets the stage for a fiery clash at WrestleMania, and if his in-ring debut goes well.

‘So again, [like boxing] I fall in love with this sport and I soak in the energy at WrestleMania and feel like there’s a future for me here, man, I’m gonna have to run with it,’ he told .

‘But it’s not my decision, it’s up to the fans. Either love me or hate me – that’s great. But if they’re indifferent to me, we got a f***ing problem and I’ll probably get out of this sport.’

WWE Raw airs Monday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
