Cody Rhodes has revealed the decision to wrestle with a devastating injury at Hell In A Cell was entirely his call.

The America Nightmare left fans speechless when he and shoulder after tearing his pectoral tendon off the bone on Sunday’s premium live event.

He delivered an incredibly gutsy performance despite the very real injury, and picked up the win in an uncomfortable but brilliant bout.

While Rhodes is expected to address his status on Monday Night Raw this week, he did speak to the fans at Chicago’s Allstate Arena on Sunday immediately after the match.

‘I’m sure I’m gonna explain things a little further tomorrow, I’ll be very brief. No one convinced me, with a torn pec, to come out here. It was solely my decision,’ he said.

‘You would have to literally kill me from staying away from this ring. Ten times out of ten, I would have made the same decision.’

Cody is yet to be officially announced for tonight’s episode of Raw, but it’s expected he’ll appear.

As reported by Fightful Select, the former Intercontinental Champion is set to undergo surgery on Thursday, while means he could be facing up to six months away from the ring.

After speculation he might not appear at Sunday’s event, Rhodes responded to the rumours earlier in the day as he shared a photo from the Allstate Arena and wrote: ‘You ready Chicago? #HIAC @WWE’

Elsewhere on the show, Bianca Belair kicked things off by retaining her Raw Women’s Championship in an instant classic against Becky Lynch and Asuka, while Theory held onto the United States Title despite the best efforts of Mustafa Ali.

Madcap Moss got a measure of revenge on Happy Corbin in a brutal No Holds Barred match, and The Judgement Day (Edge, Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley) defeated AJ Styles, Finn Balor and Liv Morgan.

Bobby Lashley overcame MVP and Omos with some help from Cedric Alexander, and Kevin Owens pinned Ezekiel.

WWE Raw airs Monday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
