Former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey says Mikel Arteta is doing an ‘absolutely unbelievable’ job at the club and says supporters ‘deserve’ to win the league title this season.
The Spaniard has taken the Gunners eight points clear in the title race, though have a game in hand.
It’s been a remarkable turnaround for Arteta at the Emirates, given the Spaniard was under significant pressure during his first full season with the club.
However, the Arsenal board stuck by the former City coach and they’re reaping their rewards now as the club are playing their best football since they last won the title in 2004.
Ramsey played alongside Arteta at Arsenal before the Spaniard’s retirement and the Welshman says it was clear that he had the credentials to become a top manager.
‘You could see his leadership qualities and the way that he handled himself was second to none,’ said Ramsey.
‘What he is doing now, definitely, you could see he was always going to be a manager one day, the way he thought and saw the game and how intense he was as well.
‘It is absolutely unbelievable what he has done there, what they are doing at the moment.’
Ramsey left Arsenal in 2019 after 11 years at the club.
Now at Nice in France, the Welshman says the club remains a huge part of his life and says supporters in north London deserve the success they’re having this term.
‘It is still a massive part of me,’ he added.
‘I spent 10, 11 years there and for them to go on and win the league, I’m as much a fan as anybody.
‘I still know so many players and members of staff there. The fans deserve it.’
