is desperate to play in the Under-20 next month and is pleading with boss to let him go, according to reports.

The 18-year-old has enjoyed a breakout campaign for the Red Devils this season, netting five times and laying on six assists in 31 appearances before picking up an ankle injury.

Garnacho is expected to return to action before the season ends, with United still having nine matches left to play – including the FA Cup final against Manchester City on June 3.

However, the U20 World Cup starts on May 20 – with the squad meeting up before that – meaning Garnacho would miss at least four matches.

United are due to play away at Bournemouth on the same day the tournament kicks off in Argentina, before hosting Chelsea and Fulham ahead of their trip to Wembley at the start of June.

Garnacho had been included in Argentina’s preliminary squad but, due to the overlap with United’s campaign, the Red Devils’ hierarchy .

Even did not persuade United, with the former Liverpool midfielder currently on a tour of Europe trying to convince clubs to release their players for the tournament.

Now Argentine newspaper claim Garnacho will make a personal plea to Ten Hag to let him link up with the national team.

The teenager, who defected from Spain to play for the country of his mother, had been called up to the senior squad for matches against Panama and Curacao but was forced to withdraw due to his current ankle issue.

Garnacho is absolutely desperate to make his mark in the Argentina set-up and feels the Under-20 World Cup – which is being hosted in the country – is an opportunity he cannot miss.

The winger has reportedly told Ten Hag that he wants to begin writing his story with Argentina and has begged the Dutchman to let him go.

United are still expected to decline the request, though the fact he is out of contract next summer and currently discussing an extension could prompt them to entertain the proposal in order to keep their young starlet happy.

Mascherano, meanwhile, also met with Brighton to discuss Facundo Buonanotte, though the Seagulls were even more adamant that he would not be allowed to leave before the end of the season.
