Andreas Pereira says he wants to remain at loan club Flamengo despite new boss Erik ten Hag being keen to take a closer look at him during this summer.

The 26-year-old has not played for the Red Devils since June 2020, joining Brazilian side Flamengo on loan last August after spending the previous season with Lazio.

He was widely expected to leave United on a permanent deal this summer, with Flamengo having agreed a buy clause, while Fulham have also made an offer worth £8.6million which could rise to £11m with add-ons.

But Ten Hag is believed to have asked for any decision over a transfer to be delayed and informed Pereira that .

However, the Brazilian appears to have little intention of continuing his career at Old Trafford – or even staying in the Premier League with Fulham – and has made it clear he wants to remain at Flamengo.

‘I’m not the one who decides, it’s up to Manchester United,’ Pereira told reporters when asked about his future.

‘I would like to stay at Flamengo, but it’s not in my hands. I will see what is best for me and the club.

‘I love Flamengo. I’m going back to Brazil, I will talk to people, my family and [vice-president of Flamengo] Marcos Braz, and we will see.’

He added: ‘My relationship with Flamengo has always been very good. This year for me has been incredible.

‘If a [permanent transfer] doesn’t work out, I will leave with my head held high. I love the club, I love Flamengo. If I leave now, I will come back in the future.’

Ten Hag reportedly sees Pereira as a player who could adapt to his style of play and wants to include him in United’s tour of Thailand and Australia next month.

He only has one year left on his contract, however, so this summer would represent United’s last chance to cash in, while the Brazilian was previously frustrated by how under-used he was by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United are aiming to be very busy this summer in the transfer market, with an agreement nearly reached to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona while Ten Hag is also targeting former Ajax charges Antony and Lisandro Martinez.
