will pocket £4.5million after agreeing a deal to sell defender Konstantinos Mavropanos to Stuttgart – though the Bundesliga side could sell him immediately for a big profit.
The 24-year-old has spent the last two seasons on loan at Stuttgart and excelled in the 2021/22 campaign as he helped the side avoid relegation in dramatic fashion on the final day of the season.
As part of his loan agreement, Arsenal agreed a purchase option of just €3.5m (£3m) – but he is now worth significantly more than that.
, Stuttgart confirmed to Arsenal prior to their survival in the top flight that they intended to complete the transfer.
But the Gunners will receive slightly more than the purchase clause, also netting £1.5m in bonuses in addition to the £3m fee.
Stuttgart have agreed to make the full £4.5m payment up front, giving Arsenal a small cash boost ahead of the summer transfer window.
However, the north London club are fully aware that the fee represents a massive bargain and is well below Mavropanos’ true market value after he enjoyed an excellent campaign.
His performances have attracted interest from a host of clubs including Premier League duo West Ham and Newcastle United as well as Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.
There is an expectation that Stuttgart can receive around €20m (£17m) for the Greek centre-back – meaning the club can make an immediate £12.5m profit.
That will be a bit of a blow to Arsenal, who are conscious of the fact they may need to raise funds to bolster their transfer kitty this summer as they look to bring in several new faces.
Mikel Arteta has made a new striker his top priority and the club are prepared to spend big to land Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City, while a new midfielder and two new full-backs are also on their wish list.
