Atalanta have rejected ’s attempt to include players in a part-exchange deal for Rasmus Hojlund, with the Italians seeking a straight up fee for the striker.

The Dane is ’s first choice target at centre forward this summer, after having a move for rebuffed at the start of the window.

The 20-year-old, a boyhood United fan, has already agreed personal terms with the Red Devils over a move to Old Trafford.

But United are working on a tight budget this summer, and Erik ten Hag has been given just £120m to spend.

Mason Mount’s arrival on a £55m move from Chelsea means nearly half of that budget is gone, while a move for Inter Milan ace Andre Onana could take the club’s spending past the £100m mark.

Ten Hag will therefore have little left to sign a striker, and Atalanta have set an asking price of around £86m for Hojlund.

That’s a fee that United would be unwilling to pay, as they feel that asking price is excessive.

But United are determined to land their man and the say the club have attempted to get creative in their bid to land Hojlund by offering players plus cash for the Dane.

The likes of Fred and Donny van de Beek are available, while Amad Diallo has been linked with a return to his former club.

Mason Greenwood is also said to be attracting interest from Atalanta, as United look to give loan out the striker.

But the report claims Atalanta have rejected United’s attempts to include any players in the deal and they’re only seeking a straight cash offer for the striker.

United are negotiating with Atalanta alongside their talks with Inter for Onana.

A move for the Cameroonian is far more advanced than one for Hojlund.
