PSV have reportedly rejected ’s opening bid for young winger Noni Madueke, just days after the Blues signed .
Reports from the Netherlands claim that ’s side have offered €30 million (£26.6m) for Madueke, but PSV believe the bid is far too low.
The Eredivisie side have already lost one forward this January, with moving to Liverpool for a fee upwards of £35m, and do not want to sell another unless it’s for huge money.
20-year-old Madueke came through the Crystal Palace and Tottenham academies before moving to PSV in 2019, where he has scored 20 goals and made 14 assists in 80 games so far.
The England U21 international has hardly features this season however thanks to a lengthy ankle injury but is tipped to be a top talent in the future.
Potter has been looking at recruiting young forwards in an attempt to revive Chelsea’s fortunes this season, with the Blues languishing in 10th in the table.
The likes of Christian Pulisic, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Raheem Sterling have failed to deliver, with Chelsea ranking 13th for goals scored in the Premier League so far this season.
While it is not yet known whether the club will make another move for Madueke any time soon, it does seem strange that they are still pursuing him given their recent acquistions.
On Sunday, Chelsea confirmed the signing of Mudryk, hijacking Arsenal’s deal for the Ukraine star and splashing £88.5m on the 22-year-old, the second-most expensive deal in the club’s history behind Romelu Lukaku.
Last week, they also signed fellow forward Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid, though he is set to miss the next two games through suspension after being shown a straight red on his debut against Fulham.
This has brought Chelsea’s spending total for the season up to a staggering £377m in Todd Boehly’s first year in charge at Stamford Bridge.
But following the win over Palace on the weekend, Potter admitted it was unlikely there would be any more signings given just how big his squad now is.
He said: ‘We’ve got to be, not necessarily careful, but you’ve got to understand we’ve got ten or eleven players unavailable and you can’t just sign players to replace those because then you’d have a squad of 30 and that is a problem.’
