Chelsea have issues to resolve in defence, midfield and attack says former Blues star Frank Lebouef and must resolve them quickly to avoid a ‘very disappointing end to the season.’

It was a tough night for Chelsea on Wednesday night as they were beaten 3-1 by in the first leg of their quarter-final at Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel’s side were not impressive at the back, with Karim Benzema scoring a hat-trick, the first two coming from free headers in the box and the final one from a misplaced pace from goalkeeper .

N’Golo Kante was substituted at half-time after a poor opening spell, while Kai Havertz scored for the Blues, but the other forwards continued to struggle to make an impact, notably Romelu Lukaku off the bench.

Lebouef, who won two FA Cups with Chelsea, thinks Tuchel has to sort all three areas of the pitch out very quickly or it could turn out to be a damp squib of a season.

‘No, I wouldn’t go that far,’ Leboeuf told ESPN FC on whether Tuchel should be sacked. ‘There is a possibility for to get through if there is kind of a miracle and Tuchel finds the solution.

‘There are some question marks. I never thought Chelsea were as good as Liverpool or and over 38 games of the season they can’t follow the results of the two other teams.

‘They are a very good team, better than some others, but he has to find a solution. He didn’t find a solution, for a second year, up front, for example

‘He has some issues with N’Golo Kante, who has been injured many, many times this season.

‘At the back it was good last season, it’s not anymore.

‘There are some issues that they have to resolve and very quickly because it can be a very disappointing end to the season.’

Chelsea are back in action on Saturday at Southampton in the Premier League before going to Spain for the second leg of the quarter-final on Tuesday.

They still have the chance of winning the FA Cup, with a semi-final against Crystal Palace at Wembley to come on 17 April.
