is set to leave this summer as and lead the race to sign the England international, according to reports.

The Blues have deemed Gallagher surplus to requirements despite the midfielder scoring in their last two pre-season wins over Brighton and Wrexham.

He is being actively offered to clubs this summer with Spurs and West Ham the current frontrunners to land his signature ahead of the 2023-24 season.

The report that the Hammers are ‘ready to push ahead of Spurs’ as they look to bring in two midfielders after selling Declan Rice to Arsenal.

Tottenham may be the more attractive option for Gallagher, though, with the north Londoners in need of homegrown players as well as a potential replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who is strongly linked with a move to Atletico Madrid.

Gallagher, who came through the Chelsea academy and has been with the Blues since the age of six, was keen to stay and fight for his place at Stamford Bridge but accepts that he needs to leave with the club unwilling to offer him a new deal.

New head coach Mauricio Pochettino is a fan of Gallagher – but also accepts the decision Chelsea’s hierarchy have made over the player’s future.

Everton attempted to sign Gallagher in the January transfer window and were willing to pay up to £45m .

The 23-year-old was also linked to Newcastle United and Liverpool – but they are believed to have now cooled their interest.

He had made a total of 45 first team appearances for Chelsea and has spent time out on loan at various clubs, including Crystal Palace, where he was named the club’s Player of the Year for the 2021-22 season after impressing in the top-flight.
