Emmanuel Petit has named the signing that would transform and ahead of the new season.
Arsenal and Chelsea endured mixed seasons last year, with the Gunners challenging for the title and the Blues slipping into the bottom-half of the table.
Mikel Arteta has .
Chelsea, meanwhile, have bolstered new manager ’s squad with the signings of Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku and Kendry Paez.
Despite productive starts to the summer transfer window, both Arsenal and Chelsea are keen to bring in more players before the start of the new season.
Arsenal have and Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia, while Chelsea are and Monaco defender Axel Disasi.
But Petit, who played for Arsenal and Chelsea, believes his former clubs should do everything they can to secure the signature of Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo this summer.
Chelsea have already made three unsuccessful bids for the Ecuador international, who was the subject of several offers from Arsenal in January.
‘Arsenal have analysed really well what was missing in the team,’ Petit told . ‘They had to factor in too those who left at the end of last season.
‘Mikel Arteta and his staff know exactly what they want on the pitch, both individually and collectively, and they have chosen the right profile for every position.
‘To me, it looks like Arsenal players are living well. They are together and there are no stories. They have smiles on their faces.
‘So the faster Declan Rice and the other new players fit into this system, the better it will be for Arteta and Arsenal.
‘They have done well in the transfer market but I think they need at least two more players to reduce the gap with Manchester City.
‘I want to see them fight for the title straight away because then they have the Champions League and a lot of the players have no experience in that – it’s different physically and mentally.
‘What they have done is good but they’re still missing players. My dream would be Caicedo and I’ve been saying that now for two years.’
Asked if Chelsea should also prioritise a move for Caicedo, Petit added: ‘Definitely. He can play different positions.
‘He will bring anger onto the pitch. He has desire and leadership. He has been a leader for Brighton these past two seasons.
‘He has grown up so fast after the World Cup and for me there is no doubt Chelsea need Caicedo.’
