Frenkie de Jong was ‘very upset’ with his club Barcelona after they tried to sell him to but has now reportedly ‘calmed down’.
 made the Netherlands international his top transfer target following his arrival as United boss in May 2022.

De Jong remained determined to stay at the Camp Nou, though, with United eventually ending their interest and signing  from Real Madrid instead.
It has now been in Spain that De Jong was left angry over Barcelona’s attempts to offload him and it damaged his relationship with the club’s hierarchy.
However, De Jong has since calmed down and Barcelona are now thought to be plotting a new long-term contract for the 26-year-old.
Barcelona consider De Jong to be one of the best midfielders in the world but they want to make him take a pay cut for the next two years.
It remains to be seen how De Jong will react to that demand, but it is believed that he is very happy at the club since he moved from Ajax in 2019.
De Jong has registered 16 goals and 21 assists across 190 games for Barcelona, helping them land the Copa del Rey trophy in 2021 and La Liga title in 2023.
He has 54 caps for the Netherlands and represented his nation at Euro 2020 and at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
