‘He has shown his quality with the ball and he has shown his quality as a leader,’ Kane said of his close friend.
‘He has to keep doing what he is doing. Gareth Southgate knows what he is capable of and it will be pleasing for him to see another Englishman playing at the highest level. Hopefully, Eric can keep it up.
‘Eric has been a big part of the national team in recent years. He missed out on the Euros squad but was with us at the World Cup.
‘All Eric can do is perform the way he has. I am really proud of him. Here at Bayern, Eric has been amazing.

Dier himself has insisted that his focus is on playing well for his new club, which is all he can do to force his way into Southgate’s thinking.
‘The national team is a really simple thing. You try to play as well as possible for your club and everything else is out of your control,’ Dier said.
‘If I am playing for a club like Bayern and if I am playing well, I should have a good chance. Why not? I have not spoken to Gareth but it is up to me to play well.’
Dier has won 49 caps for the Three Lions but has not played for England since the last 16 win over Senegal at the World Cup in 2022.
Since making his debut in 2015, Dier has scored three goals for England and has represented his country at three major tournaments.
