Hector Bellerin wants to forego his salary of around £4.2m to cancel his contract a year early and join Real Betis this summer.

The 27-year-old is desperate to leave the Emirates and return to the club where he spent last season on loan.

The right-back played 32 times for Betis in all competitions over the last campaign, winning the Copa del Rey and loving his time with the Spanish club.

He is now back at Arsenal but is clearly not in Mikel Arteta’s plans after not even making it onto the substitutes’ bench on the opening day of the Premier League season against .

Bellerin still has one year to run on his contract with the Gunners, but he has proposed that the deal is cancelled 12 months before it is due to end, reports Spanish publication .

The Spain international has offered to go without the salary Arsenal would be due to pay him over the coming year, around £4.2m, so he can sign a four-year deal with Betis on about half the salary he is paid in north London.

Arsenal were willing to sell Bellerin this summer, wanting around £8.5m for him, but it is not clear yet whether they are ready to let him leave on a free transfer.

With the player desperate to leave and the manager having no plans to play him, it seems likely the Spaniard will get his wish and return to Real Betis. However, the Gunners will be disappointed to lose him for nothing when he was once linked with big-money moves to the likes of Barcelona.

Bellerin has made 239 appearances for Arsenal but has fallen so far down the pecking order at the club he was not even in the squad against Palace on Friday night.

Despite Takehiro Tomiyasu being out injured, Bellerin still did not get a look in at right-back, with Ben White played there and Cedric Soares on the bench.
