Conor Gallagher has admitted that he was very disappointed to miss out on playing at Wembley for the semi-final clash between and .
Gallagher has spent the season on loan at Selhurst Park but was unable to feature against his parent club last Sunday after Chelsea denied Palace’s request to let the midfielder play.
The Blues went on to win the match 2-0, courtesy of goals from and Mason Mount, and they’ll now face Liverpool in May’s final.
With eight goals and five assists so far, Gallagher has been one of the Eagles’ best players this campaign and was a huge miss for the side on Sunday.
‘It was quite difficult to watch. I got over the fact that I wasn’t playing but watching the game I was just wanting to be on the pitch and to be playing,’ the 22-year-old told the South London Press.
‘Playing in games like this – the semi-final of the FA Cup at Wembley – is what everyone wants to do in their career, everyone wants to play in these games.
‘It was an amazing occasion for the club to be at Wembley and play in the semi-final. I’m proud of the boys, it was a good game to watch. Chelsea played well and they were the better team on the day.
‘We have done well to be here. We know we probably could have done better. The game, it’s such small details, if we go 1-0 up then it could be a whole different game.
‘It wasn’t meant to be. We just have to dust ourselves off and go again.’
Gallagher will now be focusing on helping Palace finish in the top-half of the Premier League table for only the second time in their history.
The Eagles are currently 13th, just three points off the top-10, and face a tricky trip to in-form Newcastle United on Wednesday night.
The England international added: ‘I want to play well and help the team as much as I can and hopefully score a couple more goals. There’s not many games left and we want to finish as strong as possible.
‘I’m literally just focusing on the end of the season. There’s a few games left and that’s the most important thing right now.’
