Ian Wright makes fresh title prediction after Arsenal and Manchester City close gap to Liverpool

Arsenal legend says it would be ‘silly’ to suggest that won’t win the title this season.

City’s chances of winning a record fourth consecutive title took a huge boost over the weekend after Arsenal beat league leaders Liverpool 3-1.

It was a game the Gunners had to win in order to stay in the title race and , and they are now just two points off the top of the table.

But the result was also terrific news for City, who are now also just two points behind Liverpool following their on Monday night.

Crucially, the Citizens have a game in hand over their rivals, so they’ll take the lead if they win that, and given how ’s side are renowned for going on outstanding, unbeaten runs at this time of the season, many believe that the title race is now theirs to lose.

Wright believes as much, though is of course still hoping that his beloved Gunners can win their first Premier League since 2004, but he admits that he is thinking with his heart rather than his head on that one.

Asked to name who would finish in the top three, in order, the former striker told : ‘I am going to go , City, Liverpool because that’s what I want, but you can’t.

‘It’s silly really simply because of City, their experience, the fact that they have got everyone fit. It would be silly of me to say, as much as I want it to happen, you still have to say City probably will win the league.’

Shaun Wright-Phillips, Wright’s son and former City forward, concurred, predicting: ‘City, Liverpool, Arsenal.

‘I just think Liverpool are used to going toe to toe. They’ve been there, they’ve done it. Arsenal’s done it once.

‘With the Champions League coming into play for Arsenal, with injuries, I don’t think they’ve got the depth to go all the way.’

City will have the chance to go top of the table – at least temporarily – when they host struggling Everton in this Saturday’s early kick-off, with Liverpool hosting Burnley later that afternoon.

The Reds will be expected to bounce back against the relegation threatened Clarets, but Arsenal face a tougher test on Sunday when they travel across London to West Ham.
