The Premier League champions stunned United by scoring the fastest ever FA Cup final goal – .
Manchester United equalised before half-time through a Bruno Fernandes penalty but City scored what turned out to be the winner shortly after the break, Gundogan with another volleyed goal.
Man City will become just the second English side after local rivals United to secure the treble if they beat Inter Milan in next weekend’s Champions League final.
For United, they will now go away and reflect on what has been a largely promising season under Ten Hag, soon turning their attentions to a crucial summer transfer window.

Keane and Wright both believe Manchester United need to bring in a new goalkeeper to replace De Gea and sign a ‘proper’ striker.
Ten Hag but the Spaniard has made a number of mistakes this season and should have kept out Gundogan’s winner at Wembley.
Centre-forward has been a problem position for United since Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit, with Burnley loanee Wout Weghorst scoring just two goals since his arrival in January.
Speaking on ITV Football after Manchester City won a seventh FA Cup, Keane said: ‘The winning goal – from Manchester United’s point of view – is really, really poor. We’ve seen this kind of set-piece delivery from Man City.
‘He doesn’t hit it cleanly and it goes through some bodies. But Man United need to get a new goalkeeper. They need a world-class striker and a new goalkeeper.
‘They need some other players too but those are the two areas. I’m sick of saying it.
‘A top goalkeeper saves that. I played with some top ones, they can get you over the line. That could have been the difference today.
‘You expect your keeper to save that and he didn’t and that’s why we’re seeing these City celebrations. Manchester United need a world-class goalkeeper and he isn’t one.’
Ex-England striker Wright added: ‘They need to get a new goalkeeper. We’ve seen big mistakes from De Gea this season.
‘They need to at least get a goalkeeper in who will push De Gea so that if he is going to make mistakes, they can come in and have their turn and try to be the No. 1.
‘This is Manchester United we’re talking about and they haven’t got a proper number nine and they have a goalkeeper that you don’t know when he’s going to cost them.’
