has already signed a contract with Real Madrid and will become the club’s highest earner when he completes the move this summer, according to reports in Spain.

The France international informed Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month that he would not be triggering a one-year extension to his current deal and will instead at the end of the season.

Long-time suitors Real Madrid quickly emerged as the favourites for his signature, but it had been suggested that Mbappe was also sounding out clubs and .

But, , he had already agreed terms with Real when he told PSG he would be leaving and has now signed a pre-contract agreement until 2029.

The Spanish giants first made contact with the 25-year-old at the start of January and managed to overcome a number of financial obstacles in order to agree a deal.

Mbappe will take a significant salary hit compared to what he is currently earning in the French capital, with Real president Florentino Perez having been adamant that his arrival could not break up the wage structure in the squad.

While Mbappe will still be the highest earner in the Real dressing room, his salary is comparable to other stars and around a third of the rumoured £62million-a-year gross salary he was handed at PSG.

Managing director Jose Angel Sanchez led the negotiations with Mbappe’s mother and agent, Fayza Lamari, as well as his lawyer, Delphine Verheyden.

Real Madrid will also pay Mbappe a signing-on fee below £40million – actually less than his annual salary at PSG – which is far less than the £120m that had been demanded two years ago when Real first came close to signing him on a free transfer.

In exchange, Real Madrid have compromised on image rights, with Mbappe set to earn around 60 per cent of them – which should offset his reduced salary and signing-on fee.

Mbappe is thought to have been encouraged by Real’s performances this season and the prospect of joining a new Galacticos era alongside the likes of Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior.

The deal may not be officially announced for some time, however, with Real happy to let Mbappe see out both the rest of the season with PSG as well as the European Championships with France.

An unveiling date is being targeted for between the end of the Euros (the final is played on July 14) and the start of the Olympics (with the football beginning on July 24).

That gives Real a 10-day window to present Mbappe, with the Frenchman keen to represent his nation – who are hosting the Olympics – at the Paris Games, and the indications are that he will be permitted to do so.
